Sydney Wang is a Los-Angeles based composer and pianist whose work draws upon her extensive experience as a collaborative performer. An alumna of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Nancy and Barry Sanders Composer Fellowship Program, her music has been played by leading artists and ensembles including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pasadena Symphony, Orchestra Senzaspine, Salastina, Los Angeles Brass Alliance, New Thread Quartet, and Aperture Duo. Wang is the recipient of accolades including the 2017 BMI Student Composer Award and the 2020 Marvin Hamlisch International Music Award.

A versatile solo and collaborative pianist, Wang is committed to recording and performing both classical and new music, having premiered dozens of new works by contemporary composers. In March 2024, with special permission from the Bernstein estate and Indiana University, she recorded a full-length album of Leonard Bernstein's music on the composer’s own piano with a team of Indiana University's musicians and engineers. This project marks the first time an album has been recorded using Bernstein's piano. Wang has collaborated on numerous operas including Le nozze di Figaro (Opera Lucca), Don Giovanni (Music On Site, Inc.), Rodrigo (Opera UCLA), and the world premiere productions of Daniel Kessner's The Camp (Plain Wood Productions) and Wojciech Stępień's A Single Man (Overtone Industries). This fall, she joins the music staff in Opera UCLA's production of The Turn of the Screw.

Inspired by the vibrant new music scene in her hometown of Los Angeles, Wang is involved in the organization, programming, and hosting of composers concerts. She has produced composers concerts at UCLA, in San Diego, and in Italy. She believes that such impactful music and storytelling deserves to be heard and enjoyed by audiences everywhere.

Wang holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition from the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, where she is a staff pianist working primarily with the voice department. She has studied with Ian Krouse, William Kinderman, Richard Danielpour, Derrick Skye, James Lent, Kay Rhie, and Sarkis Baltaian.
